It's All Happening Here...

THURSDAY (now)....

I'm splitting listings up between "What's going on" and "Where I'll (likely) be"...in case that makes a difference for you. If it does and you'd like to "sponsor" an aimlessly wandering soul who'd like more freedom to "be creative" and "
drink ponder life's great truths" contact me here with your proposed sponsorship "level".

Lo, without further ado -

What's Going On

Coney Island -
  • The big story tonight, of course, is BLONDIE, Pat Benatar and The Donnas' free concert. All the children are trekking out to enjoy!
Lower East Side -
  • Mr. Prentice celebrates his 28th birthday at VAMP: Xanadu 3000 with more trannies then you can shake an implant at!

P-Town -
  • Up Massachusetts way, Mr. Smith welcomes one-half of SPANK! and guest DJ Sean B. to play some extra large, extra long, extra deep 12" Disco. Mrs. Smith (of whom Ryan is the progeny) is a special guest.

Where I'll (well...there's at least a 50% chance) Be

East Village -
  • Much beloved Nowhere and Phoenix bartender, River celebrates his birthday tonight at PHOENIX in denim shorts...or with denim shorts...or during denim shorts?...unclear. Regardless, he leaves on vacation tomorrow morning so come see him off! Happy Birthday, River!
Williamsburg -
  • Tangle (a/k/a Mr. Clayton) has put together a fun fundraiser for his next movie - a lesbian vampire, destined to be cult film shot in Manhattan and Brooklyn - with host Harriet Halloway and DJs JoJo Americo and Justin Strauss. Trailers for the movie to be shown over the course of the night and a show at midnight. VAMPIRE RIOTS...Come out and support burgeoning art, people! (Are you seeing a theme in this weekend's note? Track it, Sherlock)

  • A hop, skip and a jump down the street, Chauncey D launches a new monthly bear DANCE party (he's psyched to give you beats to throw down to on an ACTUAL dance floor!) at Hugs. He wants to give you BEAR HUGS...Can you resist?
DUMBO -
  • A new gay party in DUMBO with the Hetrick-Martin Institute (Harvey Milk High School) and DJ Nomi from Hercules and Love Affair...and the name makes me hungry! GUMBO at the new Galapagos Art Space. Free Haircuts all night! Say hello to Mr. Sosa, Galapagos' new Director of Programming while you're there.
LOOKING AHEAD to the weekend...

Flatiron District! -
  • Yes, yes...mr. Black has moved YET AGAIN!...and is now at the space formerly known as Room Service (35 East 21st btwn Bway and Park Ave. South). Tai and I are helping break in the new space guest-hosting the first TUBWAY at the new location. Come over after serving it and getting 10s across the boards at the Latex Ball OR Rocket (The Hose). You know you give it wherever you go!
ONGOING...

Park Avenue -
  • SUMMER STREETS takes over Park Avenue and connecting streets from Brooklyn Bridge to Central Park (76th Street) the next three Saturdays - making it a pedestrian and biking mall.
Chelsea -
  • NAKED (and SIZE MATTERS) are two shows at Paul Kasmin Gallery 'til Sept. 19th that you'll want to see...well, if not both, you'll definitely want to see one.

***Special Note (Week 3)***

Paul Vitale is living upstate for the summer and is using his time to raise money for medical research on Alzheimer's Disease. He's going to walk the Memory Walk on September 26th and run the Rochester Half-Marathon and is raising donations through both at his DONATION PAGE he's created to make it easy for us all. Visit soon and help him meet his goal.

Complete listings for the weekend, tomorrow...
