It's All Inside...

FRIDAY (now)....

(Carried over from yestiddy) I'm splitting listings up between "What's going on" and "Where I'll (likely) be"...in case that makes a difference for you in your planning process. If it does and if you want to acknowledge I make THAT big an impact on whether you have a good time or not let me know if you'd like to "sponsor" an aimlessly wandering soul who'd like more freedom to
sleep "be creative" and drink "ponder life's great truths". Contact me here on Facesbook and let me know your proposed sponsorship "level".

Now, without further ado...

What's Going On

East Village -
  • The Hose is host to FRISKY DISCO (cute masks, boys!) and DJ Aaron Elvis James' one hour mash-up set, hence this edition is aptly dubbed "Mashopolous". Go-go and Del Rio, too.

  • Mr. Karff begins his birthday celebrations tonight at HE'S A REBEL at Nowhere. Guest DJ Kevington joins him on the decks.

Where I'll (well...there's at least a 50% chance) Be

West Village -
  • I'll stop in for a guzzle at Gusto's nozzle courtesy of Mr. Williamson but it won't be a PRE-GAME affair for me...I'll likely be headed to a movie instead of a wild night out. We shall see. (Famous last words...)

SATURDAY...

What's Going On

Flatiron District -
  • Mr. Geller oversees a lavish brunching situation at 230 Fifth's CHAMPAGNE PARTY BRUNCH today and Sunday and every Saturday and Sunday. Get into the "Liquored Up French Toast". I have a feeling it won't be the only one... I'd be here but I've got to get the laundry done this morning and jet to Long Island City (reason below).
Carroll Gardens -
  • Gay Rugby star (and South Brooklyn gay-terrati), Mr. Maschi, is hosting a BROOKLYN RUGBY End of Season Fundraiser at P.J. Hanley's (adjoining South Brooklyn Pizza, home of "Fondle" gay Monday nights). $35 gets you food and beer and a warm fuzzy from being an athletic supporter (I'm assuming all who are reading this are men. If not and you're a woman, it's only $25 for that fuzz).
DUMBO -
  • Galapagos Art Space hosts a Mr. Sosa creation: FLOATING KABARETTE with Narcissister, Adam & Mia, Jenny Rocha and Her Painted Ladies, Anya and free haircuts all night long!
Lower East Side -

Hell's Town -
  • Mr. Studmuffin joins a slew of party people hosting La Vasquez' (shout out to MP) NOTORIOUS Birthday Bash. Apparently this is THE party to hear what makes a Junior party a Junior party. If you're curious.

Where I'll (well...there's at least a 50% chance) Be

  • Yes, yes...mr. Black has moved YET AGAIN! It's now at the Room Service space (35 East 21st btwn Bway and Park Ave. South). Tai and I are helping break it in by guest-hosting the first TUBWAY at the new location. Come over after serving it and getting 10s across the boards (I'm looking at YOU, Mr. Mason) at the LATEX BALL (Roseland) or ROCKET (The Hose). Or wherever you would be before you come to the Black. Wherever it is that you give what you give the way you GIVE it! You know.

Coney Island -
  • There are a few Sunday tea events in the summer that carry on the old Body & Soul tradition (in my opinion). Interestingly enough (?) they're all outside. And no, I'm not talking ASCENSION. One of them is every Sunday on the boardwalk in Coney Island. This week's event is a special BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION for DJ Louie Gorbea. Get in.
Financial District -
  • Speaking of Body & Soul, a third of the DJ trio from that august gathering spins his popular 718 Sessions at Santos tonight.

Love...

Need Help?

It's funny SCARY cuz it's true!!

I am really starting to wonder what the hell's happening in this country. I thought the craziness during the last election was just business-as-usual, but I had grown up and was more participatory than before, and therefore it seemed different. I thought Obama's election and the transference of power from one party to the other went relatively smoothly. Then the whole financial crisis struck and the surrealism of governmental actions, news reports relating to those actions and the reactions of "America" or "concerned Americans" (as reported via the same media outlets) to all of this, right up to the current healthcare reform hysteria, is making me feel a little crazy myself! I'm to the point where I'm almost convinced we're all nuts (and by "we" I mean, all of you!)!!

The following articles aren't helping to lay my fears to rest:

American Fascism?

Rise of Violent Militias? (Sure, it's Gawker, but still...)

Um...REALLY?!?! A gun? Worn to a townhall meeting strapped to your thigh? Not a threat? Oh OK!...Then what is it?

The comments, as ever, are fun reads.

If any one needs me, I'll be actively avoiding any thought of the peril that may await me and my loved ones in a Fascist (or anything remotely close...i.e. - what we live in now) America by partying it up irresponsibly. Seems the most logical thing to do at a time like this...

Back at The Gansevoort, however, Jordan Fox and I hold down the fort as construction continues (and the liquor pours).

Hey...it's a long night and I'm right on your way!), if you're all about an easy, relaxing time in a great location where you can bask in the sun and enjoy this great weather, come get a drink from the handsome Mr. Grimm and find me on the patio (or vice versa. there's likely to be pitchers involved!).

  • Mr. Studmuffin hosts a "little" daytime gig for VICTOR CALDERONE...sort of a "tea with the queen" situation!
East Village -
  • Speaking of legends and queens, Chauncey D holds his 7th BEETLEJUICE wat which he's celebrating all things Madge('s va-jay-jay). Decipher which person (or thing) in that sentence is the legend and queen and bring your answer down to Nowhere Bar. Maybe you'll win something! Screening of Sex: The Film at midnight...

MONDAY...

Carroll Gardens -
  • Mere steps from my home, FONDLE takes place every Monday night at South Brooklyn Pizza. Mr. Schmich serves it up. Get in!

LOOKING FORWARD...

Carroll Gardens -
  • Literally down my block...B.E.M.P. - Brooklyn Electronic Music Festival goes all day and boasts a pretty awesome (and extensive) line-up.
East Village -
  • Don't stay too long tho, cuz it's time - once again - to visit the groovy PLANET ZiZMOR with your hosts and guides Alon, Idan and crew (including me!). All this on Saturday, August 8th!

(Plain ol') Bottom Line: Here's hoping this crazy weather a) isn't the start of the eradication of human life from earth as a result of global warming and b) is almost past us. I want sun! Have a great weekend regardless, and - as Miley Cyrus' "Aunt" Dolly reminds us - "if you want the rainbow, you've got to put up with the rain.".

this looks FUN!

Maybe it's always been this way, but I feel like it's particularly true these days that Chelsea=Bears and this weekend, all the Bears wanna do is wear speedos?!
  • Not only do they like speedos, they're SO hot right now there's an actual CLUB you can officially join! Not sure what the dues are, but my friend Chauncey D is DJing the METRO BEAR NY SUMMER BEACH PARTY, taking place - naturally - at View Bar and involving ribs & wings. I love me some Chauncey and support anything he does, so...fat/hairy/skinny/otter/cub/platypus/egret/whatever?...go!

  • MORE Bears! Get in on the ground floor...sorry...basement, as a new kind of man party (with an old reference for a name) takes off. Robert Valin and DeMarko (who's celebrating his birthday.) kick off KAKE at the Chelsea Hotel.

  • Finally (and most enduringly)...just down the street and back down some stairs...the original "man party" for glammabears and their ilk, SNAXX, is back for one more Friday after tonight before it takes its annual summer season hiatus through August.

SATURDAY...

  • The lovely Greenberg sisters (Hey girls!) are displaying their wares to fine affect (no doubt) at their TULESTE TRUNK SHOW at Alice + Olivia out in the land of fancy-pants. There's bubbly, too! MMmmm!

The truth is he's booking and promoting all the events at Galapagos Art Space now and this week has put together another amazing FLOATING KABARETTE that includes Matt "Sealboy" Fraser...a category/"type" I forgot to include earlier. Sorry sealboys everywhere!
